Chendol Agar Agar


13g agar agar powder

200g prepared chendol

few pandan leaves, knotted

100g gula melaka

250ml thick coconut milk

500ml water

a pinch of salt


1.  Put agar agar powder, gula melaka, pandan leaves and water in a pot.  Bring to a boil and stir till sugar and agar agar powder is dissolved.  Strain mixture.

2.  Pour in coconut milk and salt and reheat again for a while.  Remove from heat,  add in the chendol and mix lightly.  Pour into a 7-inch square tin and leave to set.  Chill before serving.

  1. Hello, I’ve browsed through all your dessert recipes. You have such great talent! I really enjoy agar-agar jelly desserts, and I’d like to try this recipe of yours. However, I don’t know 2 ingredients you listed: chendol and gula melaka – what are these ingredients? And, where can I find it? I live in Minnesota, so there are a lot of Asian stores near. Please reply. Thank you.

  2. Hi Christine,
    I have posted a recipe for chendol under desserts and snacks with a picture of it. Gula melaka or palm sugar is imported from Malaysia or Indonesia, you should be able to get them from the asian stores.
